The result of a research project exploring how a more holistic approach can be taken to placemaking design, challenging the idea of reductive graphic identities which do not factor in the people that make up, and form the cultural identity of the places that they aim to represent.
Through 3 months of open dialog and a series of workshops we uncovered the transient word of mouth tales from Shirehampton, Bristol - from photographs that were said to not exist to tales from the gunpowder house and carnivals no longer remembered by the younger generation. Through discovering these myths and tales it became apparent these were what shaped the character of Shirehampton.
After conversation with residents regarding a felt lack of accessibility towards gallery spaces, this project culminated in a exhibition displayed on the public notice boards and town hall, accompanied by exhibition catalogues which were given back to residents.
